SCENE 27: LEM BREAKS UP WITH CELIA

INT. LEM’S LIVING ROOM-NIGHT

Lem’s dad sat by the living room, he’s watching his basketball game. Lem came home from school.

LEM’S DAD

Where were you?

I’ve been calling

you. Your girlfriend’s

at your room.

LEM

Why did you let

Celia in?

LEM’S DAD

I’m sorry, did you left

specific instructions

on how to deal

with your girl?

Wham am I suppose to

say, don’t go inside

your boyfriend’s room?

LEM

Dad, I already

broke up with her by

phone, I texted her earlier tonight.

She’s no longer my

girlfriend.

LEM’S DAD

That’s breaking news.

I have no idea.

She did not say

anything about that.

Sorry?

LEM

Let me just talk

to her, and next time,

please don’t let

anyone inside my room.

That’s my exclusive

man cave.

LEM’S DAD

She seems to be a

nice girl Lem. It’s a pity

you broke up with her.

If your mom was here,

she will be sad.

LEM

You don’t know her

dad. She can be too

much sometimes.

I’m sure, mom will

understand. Don’t you miss

her dad?

LEM’S DAD

Everyday.

Lem smiles at his dad, he then went to his room. Celia was there waiting, she’s reading a book by his study table.

LEM

Celia, why are you

here? We talked about this,

we can’t see each

other anymore.

CELIA

Who is she? I deserve

to know. That’s the

least you can do

after our break up

LEM

I don’t know what

you’re talking about

Celia. I broke up with you

because we are

so done.

CELIA

You broke up with me

because of someone.

Does she go to the

same school as we go to?

Who is she?

Is she prettier than

me? Does she kiss better

than me?

Celia tries to kiss Lem, but he did not respond to her kiss.

CELIA

Why? That’s not good

enough for you?

(Kissed Lem again)

LEM

Celia stopped it.

This won’t work.

You don’t get it do you?

CELIA

I gave you three years

of my life. And now

you’re telling me that

I don’t get it?

The least you can do is

tell me. I deserve to know.

Who is she Lem?

LEM

Why?

CELIA

Are you serious?

You’re asking me why?

Do you think I will

just sit down and stare

at the wall, pretend that

nothing happened.

I’m your girlfriend, apparently

Ex girlfriend now, but still

I deserve to know, because

I’m sure I can do

better than her.

You just have to give

me a chance. Who is she?

LEM

It’s not a she, but

a he.

CELIA

What are you talking

about? Are you gay?

(Pounds Lem’s chest)

You’re not gay. Those locker

room gossips are not true.

What my best friends are

saying are not true.

LEM

I’m gay Celia

CELIA

Don’t tell me..don’t tell

me it’s him. The freaking

ugly son of the waitress tutor?

I know this will happen.

I had my suspicions that

night at the diner where you

just sat there and stared at

him. Maybe if I stopped you

that night. We’re not gonna

be where we are right now.

LEM

There’s nothing you

can do Celia. You can’t

control feelings.

We had good times

let’s leave it like that.

When you look at the

big picture, you see that

we move in life through

relationships.

Whether its friendship or

love. Life is a constant

flow of change.

CELIA

You know what really sucks?

You chose a guy. How can I compete

with a guy? (cries)

LEM

It’s over Celia.

We have to move forward.

To hold on will only

hurt us both.

Celia, there will

always be a part of

me that will always

love you.

CELIA

So this is it? This is really

the end of everything.

I should have just stared at

that break up text you

sent, instead of standing

here in front of you,

‘cause it’s more painful

to see the truth staring

back at you.

Celia left quickly, as Lem looks back, his dad is standing by the door.
