SCENE 24: LEM ADMITS HIS FEELINGS

INT. COFFEE SHOP-NIGHT

Chai sips his coffee as he reads a book while waiting for Lem. Lem shows up half an hour later, all showered up. Chai smiles as Lem sits in front of him.

CHAI

Do you want anything?

LEM

No, I’m fine. So listen

Chai, I read some of the

review materials you did,

and I think it’s pretty

self explanatory. All I need

to do is just to really

study them. Thanks for

that. But I can’t take my

Friday exam, I have a

swimming competition.

Can you help me

reschedule my exam?

CHAI

Of course, I’ll talk

to your professor.

LEM

Thanks, Chai also I

want you to have this.

Lem gave Chai the gold medal that he won at the swimming competition last week.

CHAI

For me?

LEM

Yes, it’s for you.

CHAI

You won? Congratulations.

LEM

Thank you. I want you to

have that medal because

you are the real champion.

You inspired me.

I really appreciate all the

time you’re putting into

this, without you, I will lose

my varsity spot and

I won’t be able to

compete. I got that medal

because of you.

CHAI

Thank you. I really don’t

know what to say.

I really feel like a

swimming champion

right now.

This is an amazing

medal. Wow, look at the

design. I love it.

What makes this

really special is that

behind this medal

are hours of sacrifices

and training.

It takes a lot, if not

everything to get this.

Thanks Lem.

LEM

It’s my pleasure.

You’re the real

swim champion.

CHAI

Well..not really, I almost

got drowned, remember?

LEM

Chai, can you promise

me something?

CHAI

What? To be always

happy and giggly around you?

LEM

You won’t go to any

water, to any pool,

and will not do

any swimming without

me there, next to you?

Can you promise me that?

CHAI

I promise.

LEM

Is he here right now?

CHAI

You mean, Tawat?

LEM

Yes

CHAI

No, I think he already

told me what he

wants me to do.

I think he won’t

show up again.

LEM

Is it finding his mom

and bringing some

sort of comfort to her

grieving heart?

CHAI

I think that’s part of

what Tawat wants.

Maybe I’ve been overthinking

things. Maybe he’s

not real at all.

Maybe he’s just an

extension of my wild

imagination.

Lem held Chai’s hand and stares at Chai.

LEM

I’m real. This is real.

Chai, do you feel

what I’m feeling?

CHAI

What are you trying

to say Lem?

LEM

Chai ever since we

first met by the locker,

You woke up that part of

me that I never knew

was there. You stirred

emotions I’ve never felt

before. And when I pulled you

out of that pool, I was very

worried. In my mind,

I was chanting, what if

you don’t wake up,

how can I tell you…

CHAI

How can you tell

me what…Lem?

LEM

Everything. I want to

tell you everything

that I’m feeling at

that moment, the same

feeling, I’m feeling

right…right at this moment.

CHAI

You have a girlfriend.

Did you forget that?

LEM

Right I do. But does

Celia actually matters?

CHAI

To me, it matters

because she will always

be the wall that

I can’t climb, the wall

that will keep us apart,

if ever there was us.

LEM

She doesn’t connect

with me, the way you do.

With her, I have to exert

an effort to love her,

with you, I just have to

be myself because you’re

easy to love.

Lem firmly held Chai’s hand, he then slove moves towards Chai and kissed him, Chai responded and kiss Lem back. And then Chai quickly pulled out.

LEM

Why?

CHAI

Tawat

LEM

Tawat?

CHAI

Lem, I don’t know what’s

going on right now.

But I want to kiss you,

I want to be with you…

but Tawat

LEM

Chai, just close your

eyes, tonight it’s

just us.

Chai kissed Lem as it begin to rain outside. Tawat holding a clear umbrella was standing outside watching Lem and Chai kissed through the glass walls of the coffee shop. Tawat cries.
