SCENE 22: TEDDY BROKE UP WITH DREW

INT. TEDDY’S ROOM-NIGHT

Drew pulled Lauren inside Teddy’s room, located in front of the laundry area, Lauren looks out from the room’s windows as Sylvia sort through the bleached clothes.

LAUREN

Drew, what’s going

on?

DREW

I want more

responsibility.

LAUREN

What do you

mean?

DREW

I want to be the

father.

LAUREN

It’s your child, I

never said, it’s not

yours. No one’s

denying you of your

right as a father.

DREW

A real father. Not just

in paper. Not just

somebody who

gives cash every month.

Tonight, while my

mom was inside the

boutique, I was outside,

waiting for her,

and there’s this

funny random kid,

who for some twist

of fate, opened my eyes.

I realized that

life is too short to

miss out on the

joys of fatherhood.

I want to be involved

Lauren and really be part

of my kid’s life.

I think that’s what

I want to do in my

life Lauren.

To be a father.

To be his or her dad.

That will make

me happy. And I hope

will also make you happy

as well.

LAUREN

What do you mean

Drew? Are you saying

what I think you’re saying?

DREW

I think I like you

Lauren. But I’m not

sure yet. But I’m

prepared to take a

chance, are you?

LAUREN

Think? Not sure yet?

Take a chance?

You’re asking me of

something serious.

Something you need

to really think about.

And really be sure of,

it’s something that

you can’t just leave

to chance.

Drew, are you asking

for my heart?

But why do I

feel your doubts

and hesitations?

DREW

It will be a lie, if

I said that I’m now

certain that I

have feelings for you.

Why don’t we date

and start to get to

know each other?

After all, we’re

technically beyond

the getting to know you

phase. We have a

connection now Lauren.

Why don’t we try

to start from there?

LAUREN

And Teddy? You’re

forgetting, your boyfriend…

Lauren and Drew heard Sylvia screamed, Teddy got home and saw the bleached laundry. It left Lauren with no choice but to quickly push Drew inside the walled closet where he stayed and hide. Teddy kicks his room door open, and angrily drops the new laundry he’s carrying at his bed, he was shocked to see Lauren in his room and standing in front of his wall closet.

TEDDY

Lauren?

LAUREN

Teddy.

TEDDY

I’m not even gonna

ask why you’re at my

room. Did you see

what my mom did

out there? She bleached

the entire load.

LAUREN

Teddy, I’m sorry about

the laundry…

TEDDY

Enough about me, I’ll

deal with the bleached

laundry and my mom

later. (Takes a deep breath)

Why exactly are you

at my room? When

for days, I’ve been trying

to get hold of you?

(Jokingly throws a laundry

at Lauren)

Teddy and Lauren sat at the bed. Lauren leans her head at Teddy’s shoulders.

TEDDY

Something is definitely

troubling you, Lauren

what’s wrong?

Remind me again

how we first met and

why we became

best friends?

LAUREN

You know the truth

Teddy. I’m not always

like this, pretty and

popular.

You’re the only

person that was

there when I was

being bullied

because of what I look

like as a kid.

I hate those pesky

pimples, and

my wiry stringy hairs.

I was teased all the time

by my classmates

because of those

imperfections, and

simultaneously all the

time you were there

throwing laundry at them

and they were

so afraid of those

dirty underwear

that’s being thrown

at them.

TEDDY

Right, that was funny.

I missed our old place.

I missed being

neighbors with you.

That was a different time.

We can still afford

to rent in that

neighborhood.

LAUREN

Do you remember

the magazine you gave

me?

TEDDY

The dirty one

or the glossy fashion

magazine that

I stole from my mom?

LAUREN

You opened my eyes

Teddy. You made me

believe that I can

be those girls in that

magazine. Pretty and

happy.

When my looks

changed, the

bullying stops.

It’s funny what

salons and astringents

can do to your life.

I was instantly

overhauled.

TEDDY

You had always been

pretty Lauren.

Inside and outside.

that’s why you’re

my best friend.

plus you’re forgetting

something too…

LAUREN

What?

TEDDY

You’re the only

person in the world

that can keep a secret.

You knew that

I don’t know how

to read, and yet

you don’t force me to

do so. Because as you

said, you love me for

everything that I am,

including all my defects.

LAUREN

Teddy, I’m pregnant.

TEDDY

I know.

LAUREN

Drew is the dad.

TEDDY

I know.

LAUREN

You knew, how?

TEDDY

Somebody told me.

LAUREN

Clarisse?

TEDDY

No, just somebody.

LAUREN

I’m sorry.

TEDDY

I know.

LAUREN

I should have told

you sooner.

TEDDY

I know.

LAUREN

But It is so stupid not

to do so.

TEDDY

You’re not stupid.

How can a pretty

girl like you be stupid?

LAUREN

Pretty but stupid.

I don’t know what

I was thinking that

night. I went to this

weekend party.

There was Drew.

And weeks later

I woke up staring

at this pregnancy strip,

When I told Drew,

he took me to this

doctor to be officially

sure, I didn’t know

that it was the same

clinic that Clarisse was

interning at, that’s how

she got hold of my

pregnancy results

now her social media’s

top post.

TEDDY

Does Drew loves you?

LAUREN

I don’t know. He said

he’s not sure. But he

want to be actively involved.

TEDDY

Do you love Drew?

LAUREN

Teddy….

TEDDY

I’m not just Drew’s

boyfriend. I’m also your

best friend Lauren, and

as your best friend

I’m entitled to know if

you love Drew

or not.

LAUREN

Teddy…..

TEDDY

Do you love Drew

Lauren?

(Stares at Lauren)

LAUREN

Yes, I love Drew.

TEDDY

Then that settles it.

You should be with

him.

Not only because

he got you pregnant.

but because I will

never be the wall

in my best friend’s

happiness.

Drew might be my

boyfriend but

you are my best

friend. If you ask me

who has more weight

in gold, my answer

will be you.

Before I became

a boyfriend, I was

a best friend.

And at the end of

the day, friendship is

everything.

LAUREN

You’re going to

give up Drew, just

like that?

TEDDY

Yes, just like that.

I’m not your enemy

Lauren, I may be

like Clarisse ‘cause

we’re now both

Drew’s Ex, but I’m

not her. I’m your best

friend, I will never

hurt you.

LAUREN

But I’m the one who

selfishly hurted you.

TEDDY

Don’t say that,

because you’re not selfish.

You’re just the silly

pretty girl who fell

in love with my man.

Of course I will back out.

I have to give

my man away

for that

silly pretty girl.

Why? because I love

that silly pretty girl.

LAUREN

Oh, Teddy! I’m so

sorry. (Hugs Teddy and

cries) How can I do this

to you? I’m really selfish

TEDDY

You’re a woman Lauren.

Drew will always be

attracted to you.

I don’t think Drew is

gay. He’s just confused.

I confused him.

He had never been

with a guy before.

and I’m sure if I

asked him tonight,

in front of you, who

he will chose, he will

choose you, why?

Because you’re the

silly pretty girl that

always wins in all

situations. I’m not you

Lauren, I can’t complete

him, as you can.

LAUREN

Why does it hurt

Teddy? I feel like

I’m hurting you right now

because I’m stealing

everything from you.

TEDDY

Lauren. This is not about me

anymore. This is now about you

and Drew, and a future full of

happy promises.

Teddy hugs the crying Lauren. Drew was now standing behind Lauren. He cried as he stares at Teddy who just nod and gave him a slight smile. Drew quietly leaves the room, Lauren did not saw him as he leaves. As Drew goes downstairs, he got a text from Teddy, it reads “Let’s break up Drew”. He then threw his phone down the stairways as he sat by the stairs and cries.
